Labdog - our software

We developed our Auto Repair Shop Daily Management software using 'Filemaker' database development software. We chose Filemaker because it is cross-platform (Filemaker and our software run on both Apple and Windows computers). We also wanted a developmental program so we didn't have to design all the data base functions. When software is built from the ground up, a lot of time and money is spent making all the buttons, scripts and other components that control the basic programing functions work. Just like vehicle manufacturers we bought the basics (think spark plugs, nuts & bolts, tires that kind of thing), and that gave us time to be creative in the analysis components of our software, and allowed us to produce a superior product much less expensively. We can also modify and update our software much quicker than other software designers.

So why should you try our software? We designed our software to assist us in running our shop, helping us with the daily problems. Computers and computer programs which get in the way, which make you do things the computer's way, should be dumped. When I was doing data analysis in the Navy, with combat aircraft, we used a simple plexiglass sheet to help us know which aircraft were broken, awaiting parts or 'up'. Some company sold the Navy a fancy 'Schedugraph' board with pockets forms etc. After a couple days, out came the plexiglass sheet. If a new procedure takes longer than the old, it won't be used.
Every day, our technicians, secretary, parts manager and service manager make suggestions to make our software more useable.

If you would like to discuss computers, our software or Security Spy software send Jim Wakefield an email or access our forum.
